On Faith

Featuring Rev. Barbara Prose

PDF of Program

Our free faith demands a lot of us. At our Gorge Fellowship, no one will tell you what to believe or what not to believe.  Someone may challenge your reasoning, but they will not tell you that your beliefs are wrong. Instead, we expect each other to courageously examine ourselves and the world we live in, in order to discover, claim, profess and act on your own faith.

Our free faith demands a lot of our teenagers too!  In our tradition, at the end of year, ninth graders share their own credo statements with the whole congregation, in a Sunday morning service they create. The Latin word, “credo”, means “I set my heart on, but is often translated as, “I believe.”

What do you believe? And why? How many adults in our congregation would be ready and willing to share their credo statements on a Sunday morning?

The following questions may help:

  • What’s something you were taught to believe, that you have rejected?

  • What’s something you were taught to believe, that has withstood the test of time?

  • What’s something you wish you could believe?

  • What has helped you through the darkest nights?

  • What has brought you the most joy and helped you recognize it?

As we explore the theme of faith in September, let’s share with each other, how we’ve made it through the tough times in our lives. By sharing our experiences, our faith comes alive, fortifying us for the times ahead and deepening our gratitude for being alive today.
