October’s Theme: Death

It is natural to wonder when, how, and where we will die. It is also commonplace for family members and friends to change the subject if and when we dare to wonder about these things out loud.  So, we have a great opportunity in the month of October, when death is our theme, to not only discuss our deaths but to support each in preparing for them.

We are much more likely to get the death we want, if we dare discuss our choices today.

One place to start is by filling out this form, prepared for you, by our Care Team.

Speaking of Death: Preparing for your own Celebration of Life  PDF

My goal, as your minister, is to have one on file for each and every one of you. After you have completed the form, a Care Team member or I would be honored to talk through your priorities, wishes, fears. The more we know, the better we can serve you when the time comes.

As we find ourselves shifting into fall, feeling the cooler air on our skin, watching the leaves as they float to the ground, may we rise each morning surprised by the breath in our bodies, and refreshed by the promise of a new day.

I leave you with three questions for reflection and conversation. In your amazing life:

1. What are you harvesting from the past?

2. What are you composting for the future?

3. And what (re)new(ed) direction are you taking in your one, brief and meaningful life?

Since death is inescapable, let’s connect our heads with our hearts now, then make sure our voices are heard while we’re still alive!
